The Scoop on Melasma

Untitled design (8)Living in California, with our abundance of sun, I’ve seen many people with sun damage and sun spots. Or at least I just assumed it was sun damage, until I started hearing more and more about melasma. I started to research and I realized most of the ladies I’d seen with gray-brown patches on their face (mostly their nose bridge, forehead, chin, and upper lip) were actually suffering from melasma. Usually, the patches are where the sun hits the most; which is, also, why these patches aren’t restricted to just the face. I’ve even seen women have it on their forearms and neck. Melasma1

Unfortunately, the sun does make melasma more likely to develop. Who doesn’t love soaking up some sun on a nice day, and it’s good for you too. You shouldn’t stress too much because I found out that melasma is most often brought on by hormones. That is why women make up 90% of melasma sufferers with about 70% of those women being pregnant.

The cause of melasma is not exactly clear but it seems to occur when your color-making cells (melanocytes) produce too much color. Which is why people with more color in their skin are more likely to get melasma rather than lighter skinned people. If you’re suffering from melasma stay tuned for the next article ‘The Sunny Side of Melasma’, where we will be going over how to help bring your even skin tone back.

Look what one of our customers wrote about the benifits of using Herbal Face Food and the difference it made with her melasma. We are so excited!

“I have had deep dermal melasma (hyperpigmentation) on my face for over a decade. I’ve used every product and done every laser and peel out there with very little effect to lightening the melasma. I had pretty much given up hope of ever having beautiful skin again. I could not believe the difference in my skin after one month of using the Herbal Face Food. The hyperpigmentation was beginning to lighten and break up, I no longer had huge solid dark masses on my face. Now, over a year later, all that hyperpigmentation is pretty much gone. I can go without makeup and even be in the sun without my face darkening up immediately. My skin is the healthiest it has ever been as an adult and this is now the only product I use. It has replaced a 15 step regimen that I used to do. I cannot recommend this product highly enough, it is transformation in a bottle and worth it’s weight in gold!!” ~~Beth
