We all know that exfoliating leads to fresher and smoother skin. There’s also certain exfoliants you should avoid for smoother, fresher, and younger skin. In today’s blog we’re going to go over how to exfoliate, what to look for in exfoliants, and even a simple at home DIY face scrub.
Everyone should be exfoliating regularly between 2-4x a week to keep skin healthy and pores unclogged. Regularly exfoliating your skin will keep it from looking dull and flaky. Not to mention keeping your pores unclogged and prone to less blackheads and breakouts.
Before you start to scrub away at your dead skin you should know these three tips that we’ve discovered along the way.
- You’re not sanding plywood. Be gentle with your skin.
- Don’t over-exfoliate. EVER. You may end up with dry, irritated skin, or even broken blood vessels.
- Stick to scrubs with non-abrasive ingredients. (e.g. walnut shell, apricot seeds, etc.).
When picking an exfoliant you want the to pick something that won’t be too abrasive on your skin and something that is organic and natural. When you’re choosing one be sure to look for
one without microbeads as they are rough on the skin, and terrible for the environment. Lucky for you, it’s quick, cheap, and easy to create your own scrub. You can also customize it to your personal skin type and preference.
Our favorite recipe is a gently oatmeal honey face scrub that’s perfect for all skin types. We love that it’s gentle and the honey is very moisturizing. This scrub will leave you with smooth, glowing skin.
First you’ll need:
2tbsp. finely ground oatmeal
1tbsp. raw honey
1tbsp. almond or coconut oil
Mix all ingredients together. You may add more oil or even a couple drops of water to make it smoother. Massage it all over your face and let soak in for at least 3-5 minutes. Before rinsing off gently scrub one last time then rinse. Enjoy your new skin!
We hope you enjoy this scrub as much as we have!
