Cellulite Beginners Course 101: the basics, the facts vs. myths, and what you can do about it

No more cottage cheese thighs and orange peel skin. It’s time to learn the basics of cellulite, what you should and shouldn’t believe, and what you can do about your dimples.

cellluliteCellulite occurs when the fat deposits underneath your skin begin pushing through the layers of collagen fibers, or connective tissue, under your skin. It’s most common in your tush and thighs, but can also be found on your arms, stomach, and any other trouble spots.

Women are more likely to have cellulite than men; and 80-95% of women have cellulite at some point in their lifes. The causes of cellulite aren’t fully understood, yet, but some contributors may be:

  • Genetics – there are genes required to develop cellulite, which means genes may predispose you with the particular characteristics associated with cellulite.
  • Diet – eating too much fats, carbs, and sodium, while not eating enough fiber
  • Smoking – decreases circulation, and a lack of circulation may be contributing to your cellulite
  • Not Exercising – exercising increases circulation and helps minimize excess fat
  • Hormonal Factors – your hormones may play an important role in your cellulite as many believe you need estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin to produce cellulite

Now that we know some of the biggest contributors to our cellulite let’s go over some Facts vs. Myths.
