You may not even realize that signs of aging can be controlled and diminished. So if you’re sick of those crows feet and smile lines or want to know how to prevent them read on. I’m going to go over some of the top things we do that are causing aging because know why will help us know how to prevent them!!! …and who doesn’t wanna prevent aging…seriously!
There’s two types of aging, first is intrinsic aging, which is the aging controlled mainly by our genes, then there’s extrinsic aging, which is the aging controlled by our environment and lifestyle choices.
The Top Reasons You’re Aging
Let’s not limit signs of aging to just wrinkles and fine lines, keep in mind hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and dull skin may be giving away your age as well. Besides the obvious that you’re getting older some of the most noticeable signs of aging may be caused by some of these reasons I’ve listed below.
You don’t protect yourself from the sun. Over exposure to the sun is the number one reason for wrinkles. The UV rays penetrate your outer layers of skin and can cause major damage. Frequently sun tanning may even cause skin cancer. But don’t be scared of the sun just understand when to cover up, apply (organic) sunscreen, and run for shade.
Another BIG reason for aging (and I bet you’ve guessed it) is smoking. We all know the dangers of smoking but did you also know that smoking will speed up aging lines up to 10-15yrs. Smoking causes premature fine lines, typically, around your eyes and upper lips. I was amazed to also find out that smoking can reduce your levels of Vitamin C in your blood up to 60%. Vitamin C is the major part of production of collagen fibers and we all know higher collagen productivity leads to more youthful looking skin. I should mention alcohol causes damage to your youth, as well. Drinking causes dehydrated skin and does its fair share of damage overtime.
Beauty sleep keeps you young but could the way your sleeping be causing those wrinkles? We all know that to look fresh and young we need our ‘beauty sleep’ but if you’re like me and you sleep on your side (or even tummy down with your face smooshed into your pillow and neck slightly cranked to one side to allow for the smallest airway passage) then you may develop sleep lines overtime. It may take years but constantly sleeping with your face smooshed can create wrinkles on your chin, cheeks, or forehead. It may take a while to get used to but sleeping on your back is better overall (and it helps your spine stay alined).
The three mentioned above s
eem to be the most important but a couple other things that contribute to premature aging could be sleeping in your makeup (and even wearing makeup), lack of water, poor diet, repetitive facial expressions, and not exercising.
Aging doesn’t stop with just your face, your hands, neck, and even chest will show signs of aging. Don’t forget to take care of those areas to keep looking young and fresh!
